Please note that these courses require a minimum number of participants to run due to the physical intervention phase of the course. Please be aware that if the minimum number is not achieved, the course will be cancelled, and you will be given the option of moving to another course date or a full refund (subject to the Terms and Conditions).

From 1 October 2022 all close protection licence holders will need a first aid qualification and the new top-up training before they renew.


Purpose and Aim of the Qualification

The Pearson BTEC Level 2 Award for Close Protection Operatives in the Private Security

Industry (Top Up) is for learners who are currently working as a Close Protection

Operative and wish to renew their SIA Close Protection licence. Learners will update their

knowledge of door supervision responsibilities applicable to the role of Close Protection

Operatives. They will learn how to identify terror threats and how to respond to

suspicious behaviour. They will gain skills in the application of physical intervention

techniques as well as the associated underpinning knowledge, including safety critical

aspects to consider when undertaking physical interventions.


This course updates learners on the following:

● Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry.

● Principles of Working as a Door Supervisor for Close Protection Operatives in the Private Security

Industry

● Application of Physical Intervention Skills for Close Protection Operatives in the Private Security

Industry

● Application of Physical Intervention Skills in the Private Security Industry

● Achieve a licence to practise

● Develop their own personal growth and engagement in learning.

This qualification is supported by the SIA, the regulator for the private security industry.

First Aid Training

When applying for the Close Protection (Top Up) course you will be required to produce evidence that you have attained a minimum of recognised Level 3 First aid at Work award.

You should present your valid first aid certificate to ATG before you start your training.

If you do not have a recognised first aid award we can arrange this for you.

This is in addition to the minimum 45 Guided learning hours knowledge and practical skills training.
