1. Sport is for professionals. This idea applies only in the case of performance sports. The native qualities required for professional sportsperson (speed, skills, specific height, etc.) can only be developed; they can’t be formed by training. Employers need to ensure staff are properly trained to avoid a claim

A lack of properly trained stewards or security staff inlarge stadiums and other venues means it is only a matter of time before something goes wrong when individuals are ejected from such locations.

That is the view of Adrian Rabey, managing director ofaward-winning training provider Aartic Training Group, who points out thatstaff who may be required to physically remove individuals must have completeda Physical Intervention Training course – yet many have not.

With many summer events upcoming, Adrian is calling on thesevenues to upskill their personnel as soon as possible to ensure they areadequately trained to deal with such a scenario. He warns that it is only amatter of time before a member of the public is injured and a spotlight isturned on this training gap.

A training support company based in Swansea has launched a new networking event in the area to help local firms gain new business.Aartic Training Group, a company that provides training support to a range of individuals, launched the ‘Ticket to More Business’ networking event last month (January 2017), in a bid to help local companies kick-start their business in 2017.The breakfast event is held at the Toby Carvery Cockleshell in Gorseinon on every third Tuesday of the month. The next event will run on Tuesday 21 February at 8:15am.

A Swansea-based business that provides training support to the unemployed and ex-Forces personnel is celebrating after receiving the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) silver award at the Armed Forces Awards Wales event on Thursday (1 December 2016) at a ceremony held at Cardiff City Stadium.

Aartic Training Group, which was the only training provider in Wales to have been given this prestigious award, provides numerous training services and specialist academies to those looking to gain new skills to secure long-term employment. The company was set up by brothers Antony and Adrian Rabey, who both served in the Royal Logistic Corp in the British Army.
Their time in the army saw them assigned to many theatres of operation and were active as trainers and mentors in many military training environments. They both completed their careers in army recruiting teams.
The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same. The scheme includes bronze, silver and gold awards for employer organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.

A pair of businesses which provide training support and qualifications to the unemployed and ex-Forces personnel have expanded with a new office in Swansea.

Aartic Training Group and The British Training Board, partner companies set up by brothers Antony and Adrian Rabey, recently opened the new premises in Manselton, adding to an existing base in Llansamlet.

The 3,000 sq ft facility will enable the business to provide additional training and courses, such as community courses, employer engagement opportunities and training academies.

The companies also plan to open a drop-in clinic in the new Manselton premises to help veterans and their families access support in the community.

Adrian Rabey, chief executive of The British Training Board, said: "We are seeing continued growth with both Aartic Training Group and The British Training Board, which has meant we've had to look into creating new space to manage our clients' needs.

"We will now be in the heart of the community, giving us a better position to deliver our services."

Unemployed get Training Boost from Swansea-based Specialist Firm

AARTIC Training Group, a company that helps ex-servicemen and women and the long-term unemployed secure jobs, is launching a new hospitality academy course in a bid to get more people in secure employment.

To showcase the course and what it has to offer, the company is hosting a lunch this Thursday (14 July) at 1:30pm in the Mercure hotel, Llansamlet, for local employers and representatives from the Department for Workers and Pensions (DWP), Communities for Work and Communities First.

The hospitality academy course will involve giving trainees an introduction to silver service, food hygiene, customer service skills, confidence building and team work. The course will initially be held over four days, with the full course being run over two weeks and will include a guaranteed interview with an employer looking for hospitality staff.

With its strong commitment to getting people back to work, the hospitality academy course is being funded by Aartic Training Group itself.

Aartic Training Group and its partner company, The British Training Board, both based in Swansea, were established by brothers and ex-army officers Antony and Adrian Rabey. Both companies are proactive in seeking to form partnerships with employers across the country to increase the range of employment opportunities for those using its services.

British Company is upbeat about Brexit

The director of a South Wales-based training company, which helps ex-servicemen and women and the long-term unemployed to find a new career, suggests Brexit will lead to growth and boost the training services sector.

Aartic Training Group, based in Swansea, was set up by ex-army brothers Antony and Adrian Rabey, suggest although SME's offering training services will feel an impact as a result of this morning's Brexit announcement, it may not be a negative one.

Antony Rabey, director of Aartic Training Group , said: "The victory of the Leave campaign will significantly affect SMEs, particularly from our perspective as a training-based company.

"In reality, we feel it can only allow us to prosper as we believe the Great British population will require more training as the faith in what we do becomes more apparent.

"There will no doubt be new legislation written which may change the way we operate and there will possibly be less funding, but as a company that doesn't rely on any grants, this will not be a hindrance to us or our members who use our services. We are confident in growth if nothing else."

Changes to Enhanced Learning Credits & Further Education and Higher Education Schemes

From 01 April 2016 the Enhanced Learning Credits (ELC) and Further Education and HigherEducation schemes will see some changes, including the introduction of auto-enrolment ofall current Service Personnel.The MOD promotes lifelong learning among members of the Armed Forces, and this isencouraged through the Learning Credit schemes. The aim of the changes to the schemesare to make ELC easier to use and more accessible to all current Service Personnel(through auto-enrolment); and to enable them to make use of ELC to enhance personal andprofessional qualifications in a more flexible way, both while serving and to aid careertransition from the Service.Under the ELC and FEHE schemes qualifying Service Personnel (SP) and Service Leavers(SL) receive financial help with the cost of learning. ELC allows a single payment in each ofa maximum of three separate financial years; or now a single, aggregated lower tierpayment. The FEHE scheme provides full tuition fees for eligible SL undertaking their firstfurther or higher level qualification.The level of funding will remain the same, with an ELC lower tier of up to 3 payments of upto £1000 in 3 separate financial years and a higher tier of up to 3 payments of up to £2000 in3 separate financial years. SP and SL are eligible for up to 3 payments.FEHE will continue to pay in full for a first qualification from Level 3 (2 x A Levels orequivalent) up to undergraduate degree level.The key changes to the schemes are as follows: All Service Personnel (SP) currently in service will be auto-enrolled to be eligible forboth Schemes, as will future SP on completion of Phase 1 training A new ELC payment has been created: an aggregated lower tier payment, a singlepayment of up to £3000 for those with 6 or more years of qualifying servicecompleted on or after 1 Apr 16, which will count as all 3 payments. The qualifying service required for lower tier payments and FEHE will increase from 4to 6 years from 1 Apr 2017. SP who have already accumulated 4 years qualifyingservice before 1 Apr 2017 will keep their entitlement to use lower tier payments andFEHE. Post service access to ELC and FEHE, for all those leaving on or after 1 Apr 2016,will be reduced to 5 years. Those who left between 1 Apr 11 and 31 Mar 16 (both dates inclusive) will have until31 Mar 21 to use ELC or FEHE – 5 years from now. Anyone who left before 01 April2011 will retain 10 years of post-service access.More information is available in JSP 898.

Blended Learning for First Aid

Following a review HSE accepts that some elements of workplace first aid training can now be delivered remotely via distance based IT methodology. We will be revising our guidance to reflect this change, and outline which elements must still be classroom based (which are those elements that require candidates “to administer first aid”) . Our guidance will include advice for employers on the requirements that need to be met to provide assurance that the computer based element of the training is fit for purpose. HSE guidance GEIS3 will be updated to reflect this change, however due to a publications prioritisation exercise, we are unable to advise when this will take place.

First Aid and Resuscitation Guideline Changes
Following the review of resuscitation guidelines by the Resuscitation Council UK in October 2015 employers need to be aware that a competent training provider should indicate by December 2016 that they train in accordance with these new standards. This does not mean that you have to retrain your existing first aiders if they still hold a current certificate. You may though wish to refresh the first aid skills of your existing first aiders which is strongly recommended in our guidance .

Swansea-Based Social Enterprise Business Celebrates Anniversary

A Swansea-based social enterprise business designed to help existing or former members of the Armed Forces secure a successful second career is celebrating four years in business this month (March 2016), with the company growing from strength to strength.

Aartic Training Group and The British Training Board, partner companies that provide training and qualifications to those previously in or leaving the Forces, marked the occasion with an event held on Saturday 19 March in Penyrheol Theatre, Swansea.

Over 60 guests attended the event, including businesses, customers, family and friends who have supported the business over the last four years.

The past 12 months has seen Aartic Training Group and The British Training Board reach over 1000 registered personnel on the company’s database for its Skills Translations and Train the Trainer courses. These courses, run through Aartic Training Group, are specifically designed for those currently or formerly involved in the Armed Forces, who are looking to enhance their skills gained in the military to assist in securing a job in civilian life.

Due to the rapid growth of the businesses, the companies have increased its workforce to seven permanent members of staff and 30 associate trainers since inception. New offices have also been opened in Townhill, Bon-y-maen, Llanelli and Caerphilly, with a new office due to open in Brynhyfred soon, in addition to its headquarters on Phoenix Way in Llansamlet.

Aartic Training Group and The British Training Board were set up by Antony and Adrian Rabey, brothers who both served in the Royal Logistic Corp in the British Army. The companies were this month announced runners up of the social enterprise award at the Swansea Bay Business Awards 2016.

Two brothers from Swansea, who have formed abusiness designed to help existing and former members of the armed forcesembark on a successful second career, have helped with much needed equipment at local primary school.

Aartic Training Group and The British Training Board, partner companies that provide training and qualifications to ex-servicemen, donated storage boxes to Penyrheol Primary School as part of the company’s “community effort” program. The company set up the program in a bid to continuously give back to its community and help local people.

Antony and Adrian Rabey, brothers and business partners, served in the forces for a combined 44 years. They identified a gap in the market for a company able to translate military qualifications into civilian ones. They therefore formed The British Training Board, which works with a range of accredited awarding bodies, to create efficient mechanisms for individuals to gain full credit for training they have completed in the military in civilian life.

Adrian Rabey, director of The British Training Board, said:

“We are really pleased to have helped Penyrheol Primary School through making a donation of equipment needed by the school. Our “community effort” program is something we are dedicated to and passionate about, as we are always looking to give back to those in the community. With our business being focused on training and education, we were more than happy to donate to the school.”
