Level 3 Close Protection  

BTEC Level 3 Certificate for Close Protection Operative within the Private Security Industry

 Purpose and Aim of the Qualification:   The Pearson BTEC Level 3 Certificate for Close Protection Operatives within the Private Security Industry is designed for learners who work in, or who want to work in the private security industry as a close protection operative.

It gives learners the opportunity to:

● develop knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to become a licensed close protection operative such as planning, preparing for a close protection operation including risk assessment.

● develop skills in conflict management and their abilities in managing and resolving conflict in the context of the role of a Close Protection Operative
● learn about the legislative framework within which the close protection industry operates; team roles, personal security, and the attributes required, including the importance of team working and interpersonal skills
● achieve a nationally-recognised Level 3 qualification
● achieve a licence to practise
● develop their own personal growth and engagement in learning.
This qualification is supported by the SIA, the regulator for the private security industry.
How long will it take me to achieve this qualification?

a minumum of 18 days, In order to make the course as realistic as possible the hours you work will be long and varied.

How, What and Where?
How is the qualification assessed?

To achieve the Level 3 Certificate for Close Protection Operatives within the Private Security Industry you will need to produce a portfolio of evidence and pass a number of written examinations.

The duration of the training is no less than 18 Days.

With Effect from 1st April 2022 the Close Protection course now has 7 Areas where the Learner must demonstrate an thorough understanding of the requirement of a CPO. This new Course layout has been developed as a result of feedback from industry professionals and the SIA.

Note: This is NOT a hostile Close Protection Operative training course.

First Aid Training

When applying for your training you will be required to produce evidence that you have attained a recognised L3 first Aid at Work Certificate. You should present your valid first aid certificate to your training provider before you start your training. If you do not have a recognised first aid qualification this must be achieved prior to attending the CPO Training. This is in addition to the minimum 194 hours knowledge and practical skills training.

Purpose and Aim of the Qualification:   Level 3 Award in the Delivery of Conflict Management Training is suitable for those who wish to teach Level 2 Conflict Management Training. 
Usually, this qualification is chosen by trainers who wish to specialise in teaching SIA related security courses like the Door Supervisor Course or Close Protection Officer course
How long will it take me to achieve this qualification?
There are 2 compulsory units. Both these units must be achieved and there are no optional units. Both units are completed during a two-day course.

How, What and Where?
How is the qualification  assessed?
It is divided into 2 units and is assessed through 3 multiple-choice examinations. These units are as follows:
Unit 1:
Managing Conflict in the Workplace when Dealing with Customers, Service Users or the Public.
Multiple-choice test or credit transfer from Conflict Management Level 2 Unit from the SIA Door Supervision course (if applicable).
Unit 2:
Delivering Scenario-based Conflict Management Training. 
Microteach documents including:
1 x microteach lesson plan, scenario-design (including participant briefs), tutor feedback, peer feedbacks, self-evaluations for the delivery, session plan and effectiveness of scenarios.
All assignment templates will be provided.
What next?
Individuals achieving this qualification will be able to progress to the SIA Train the Trainer Qualification.
